Tajik president to visit Iran today

DUSHANBE (IRNA) – Tajik President Imomali Rakhmonov will arrive in Tehran today for a two-day visit.
Iran's Ambassador to Dushanbe Ali Asghar Sherdoust, while confirming the news, said President Rakhmonov is scheduled to meet with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other senior officials of Iran.He added President Rakhmonov will discuss ways of accelerating implementation of joint development projects, especially construction of Sangtoudeh-2 power plant in south of Tajikistan.
Tajik president will also discuss ways of getting rid of current energy crisis in Tajikistan, which has created a severe problem for Tajik citizens.
Energy crisis and shortage of electricity as well as severe cold have damaged infrastructures in Tajikistan seriously and caused closeness of 90 percent of the country's factories and production centers.
Some of the European countries have closed their offices in Tajikistan due to lack of electricity in the freezing temperature.
Tajikistan people use electricity as their main fuel for cooking and heating houses.
Tajik government has declared emergency situation in the country and has imposed rationing system for electricity, even in the capital, Dushanbe.
In winter, Tajikistan usually buys electricity from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, but this winter because of problems in the Central Asia, those countries could not produce enough electricity.
